Jane Smith | Pregnancy acupuncture and moxibustion in Putney
Acupuncture is a wonderful form of treatment for mothers-to-be as it offers drug-free relief from a variety of symptoms that occur during pregnancy, as well as supporting you emotionally and spiritually through this exciting journey. Ideally, I like to treat women throughout their pregnancies, so that I can monitor their physical and emotional wellbeing at each stage, and can treat symptoms as they arise. Some women choose to attend for pre-birth acupuncture treatment from 37 weeks to support an efficient labour, and of course I am here to support women who contact me for acupuncture induction in their 40th week of pregnancy and later.
I also perform moxibustion for breech presentation. This involves gently warming an acupuncture point on the little toe by holding a burning stick of smokeless moxa (mugwort leaf) over it. The warmth stimulates the point which in turn encourages the baby to move into the best position for birth. The optimal time to begin treatment is at 34 weeks, but I do see women as late as 38 or 39 weeks. During the treatment, I show you how to use the moxa sticks and provide you with your own moxa, along with clear instructions so that you can treat yourself at home.
